Private Practice

ABC executives have confirmed that the new Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice will be airing on May the 10th. It will begin with a two hour special lead by none other than the gorgeous Kate Walsh or as Grey’s fan know her Dr. Addison Montgomery Shepherd. Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes is preparing a two-hour episode for May to serve as the pilot. But ABC assures us that no matter the outcome rating wise the show will go on. So will this be the next Joey or will it become as great a spin off as CSI?

Sources say that the spin-off will be based off of Addisons unhappiness in Seatle with ex-husband Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and former lover Mark "McSteamy" Sloan (Eric Dane). Season three of Grey’s Anatomy is rumored to have Addison being offered an out of town job and the two part cliff hanger that will lead the way to the pilot will have Addison mulling over what to chose. Stay in Seattle and see her ex’s everywhere she goes or create a fresh start somewhere she isn’t known as the adultering biatch. If the spin-off goes forward it means that more likely than not we will be saying goodbye to Addison. If it doesn’t it means that she'll have decided not to take the offer and stay put at Seattle Grace.

The new show is said to be home to an amazing cast including Alias’ star Merrin Dungey and Amy Brenneman from Judging Amy. But what about the other Grey’s cast members? Rumor has it that she will be leaving all on her lonesome no other cast members are scheduled to leave.

"I believe Addison is an ideal candidate for a spinoff, because she's become popular enough that people will follow her, yet she's still a relative unknown with an element of mystery," says Steve Marsi, 27, of Newton, Mass., co-owner of website greysanatomyinsider.com.

But fan Christine Burke, 21, of Washington, isn't sure she'd watch a spinoff. "I think I'd be willing to give it a shot because Shonda Rhimes is Shonda Rhimes — and I trust in her instincts. But it seems iffy while Grey's is still on the air."

Grey’s which aired in America in April of 2005 is still going strong remaining hugely popular and receiving some of ABC’s top ratings. Last week's episode averaged 25.8 million viewers, its largest audience ever aside from last February's post-Super Bowl airing.

"No question about it, there's risk involved any time you tamper with a successful formula," says Marsi. "(But) don't forget Grey's has 11 other full-time cast members — all of whom are terrific — and so many avenues left to explore."
